Visit Perak Year 2012 Will Boost Perak Tourism
The Perak government will develop the tin dredge, Gua Tempurung cave and Royal
Belum forest to attract tourists to the state under the Visit Perak Year 2012 programme.
State tourism committee chairman Datuk Hamidah Osman said the initiative was to
ensure that the Visit Perak Year 2012 programme would feature prominently in the world tourism map.
- "Various activities are planned for the Visit Perak Year 2012 at the
international level to attract more visitors in the coming years.
- "For example, Batu Gajah has the only tin dredge left in the world and it is
being repaired as a tourist attraction.
- "We will make the tin dredge and Gua Tempurung
as tourist destinations," she told reporters after launching Taiping Tourism Festival at Taman Tasek, here,
Hamidah said the Royal Belum was more than 130 million years old while the Gua
Tempurung was estimated to have existed more than 400 million years ago.
She said the historical aspect would also be developed as a tourist attraction in the
districts and smaller towns.
She added eco-tourism and edu-tourism would be developed to attract visitors
especially the foreign tourists.
