Visit Perak Year 2012 Will Boost Perak Tourism

The Perak government will develop the tin dredge, Gua Tempurung cave and Royal Belum forest to attract tourists to the state under the Visit Perak Year 2012 programme.

State tourism committee chairman Datuk Hamidah Osman said the initiative was to ensure that the Visit Perak Year 2012 programme would feature prominently in the world tourism map.

  • "Various activities are planned for the Visit Perak Year 2012 at the international level to attract more visitors in the coming years.
  • "For example, Batu Gajah has the only tin dredge left in the world and it is being repaired as a tourist attraction.
  • "We will make the tin dredge and Gua Tempurung as tourist destinations," she told reporters after launching Taiping Tourism Festival at Taman Tasek, here, today.

Hamidah said the Royal Belum was more than 130 million years old while the Gua Tempurung was estimated to have existed more than 400 million years ago.
She said the historical aspect would also be developed as a tourist attraction in the districts and smaller towns.
She added eco-tourism and edu-tourism would be developed to attract visitors especially the foreign tourists.
