Osaka (Itami) based Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd establishes Toyo Tyre Manufacturing Malaysia Sendirian Berhad in Kamunting, Taiping in April 2011 after completing acquisition of Silverstone Berhad (tyre manufacturer in Kamunting). TTM (Toyo Tyre Malaysia) plant construction was completed in 2013 and started production using the proprietary A.T.O.M. tire production system that has been adopted at plants in Japan, the U.S., and China, the system enables precisely controlled manufacturing of high-quality tires while achieving the highest possible efficiency. The plant has initial capacity of 2.5 million tires annually and aimed to be annual supply capacity to 5 million tires by 2015.
After US$200 million 2nd phase extension to the factory in Taiping approved by Toyo Japan has increased the capacity to 7.5 million tires a year. Not only made TTM the biggest tyre manufacturing company in Malaysia, but also Toyo Tyre’s major global supply hub.
Toyo Tyre Malaysia also invests heavily in education for the local community with its corporate social responsibility initiatives. Since 2013, the company has helped more than 280 students with education financial assistance and enabled 34 undergraduates to continue their university studies.
