Taiping Heritage Ride 2025 targets 2,000 cyclists for November event

The Taiping Heritage Ride 2025 is set to attract at least 2,000 cyclists from Malaysia and abroad when it returns on 30 November.
Organisers have extended the registration deadline by one month due to overwhelming interest, with over 1,700 entries already received.
Taiping Member of Parliament Wong Kah Woh confirmed the event will start at 7am from Dataran Warisan Taiping with three route options available.
“We have extended the registration period by another month, and we are targeting at least 2,000 cyclists to take part,” he said during the launch press conference.
The event features competitive categories of 90 kilometres and 60 kilometres alongside a 20 kilometre leisure route through Sepetang, Simpang Empat and Kamunting.
Two hundred free slots will be offered to local students, increasing from 150 slots provided during last year’s edition.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad will support participants by operating an Express Bicycle Coach service for convenient transportation to Taiping.
Wong expressed gratitude to main sponsors including Kademy Sdn Bhd, Alliance Bank, Quest International University, Farm Fresh, Perak Transit, Allianz Insurance and Menteri Besar Incorporated.
Government agencies such as the Taiping Municipal Council, the Larut, Matang and Selama District and Land Office and the Royal Malaysia Police are also supporting the event.
The Heritage Ride name reflects Taiping’s status as a historic town containing Malaysia’s first museum, prison and railway station.
Recent successful events including the International Youth Marching Festival and Taiping Half-Marathon have established the town as a premier event destination. – Bernama

The inaugural Taiping 150 Ride 2024 on Dec 8 is set to be the closing event for the Visit Perak Year 2024 and the 150th anniversary of Taiping.

Taiping Member of Parliament Wong Kah Woh said the cycling event, which targets 1,500 participants, will start and end at the iconic Taiping Lake Gardens, with the flag-off set for 6.45 am.
Participants will ride through unique and challenging routes, crossing beautiful rural areas in Perak, including Sepetang, Simpang Empat and Kamunting while enjoying the pristine and serene surroundings, he told a media conference here today.
He added that the event, organised in collaboration with the Elite Cycling Club and Gosportz Sdn Bhd, is not only aimed at bringing the community closer but also at promoting Taiping as an exciting cycling destination, with participants getting to enjoy the scenic views and historic areas.
Local and foreign participants are welcome to take part, with cash and a lucky draw worth over RM30,000 on offer at the event, he said.
The Taiping 150 Ride has two main categories, namely the 90-kilometre (km) and 60km distances, as well as a 20km leisure ride that is open to the public.
Wong, also the Deputy Education Minister, said students aged seven to 17 can register for all categories for free.
The event also aims to encourage the involvement of youngsters in healthy activities and expose them to cycling, which will contribute to their physical and social development, he said, adding that the top five finishers in each category will receive cash prizes and medals.
